These OUTER WILDS earrings are constructed around fragments of tree bark naturally textured with lichen gathered from the forests of the Rocky Mountains. Each piece of bark is hand-selected for its layered structure and natural coloration—often featuring the muted blues, grays, and warm orange tones characteristic of high-elevation lichen communities. Set within rustic silver frames (and the occasional gold pair), the bark becomes the foundation for a miniature woodland scene.

To emphasize the sense of living ecology, each pair incorporates small natural elements that appear to inhabit the bark itself. Tiny mushrooms may emerge from the wood grain, or small snail shells may be positioned to look as though they are slowly making their way across the surface. These additions are meant to create the impression of a self-contained forest microhabitat—an intimate landscape captured at the scale of an earring.

The bark is stabilized and sealed to preserve its natural texture while ensuring durability for wear. Because every fragment of bark and lichen develops differently in the wild, each pair of earrings retains its own pattern, color variation, and ecological character. No two pieces are identical.

Ethical Sourcing & Care
All bark and lichen (or shells, etc) used in these earrings are responsibly hand-collected from naturally fallen material in forest environments. No living trees are cut or damaged in the process. Each piece is stabilized and sealed to preserve the organic structure while maintaining the natural textures that make each microhabitat unique. Avoid prolonged water exposure and store in a dry place when not worn.
