Few minerals capture the contrast of fire and shadow quite like Blackfire Gypsum. Formed in shades of charcoal gray to near-black and streaked with vivid veins of ember-red and rust-orange mineralization, each piece appears as though it carries the remnants of an ancient prairie wildfire preserved in stone. The dramatic coloration creates a striking natural pattern unlike any other material in the INNER EARTH collection.

Collected along the weathered shorelines of Kanopolis Lake in central Kansas, Blackfire Gypsum originates from ancient sedimentary deposits laid down when much of the Great Plains lay beneath shallow inland seas. Over millions of years, gypsum crystals formed within these sediments while iron-rich minerals and other trace elements became incorporated into the growing stone. The result is a rare variety of gypsum displaying deep smoky tones punctuated by fiery streaks of red, orange, and gold.

Unlike many minerals that can be sourced from numerous localities, suitable Blackfire Gypsum is exceptionally scarce. Only a small number of specimens displaying the distinctive dark coloration and dramatic iron staining have been recovered, making each finished piece part of a highly limited special edition series. Once the current supply is exhausted, additional material may never be found in comparable quality.

Every specimen is personally located, collected, cut, stabilized, shaped, polished, and finished by hand.
